When shopping online, it can be a hassle to keep track of items saved across multiple stores. Google’s new “Universal Cart” is an AI shopping tool designed to bring those items together in one place. According to The Verge, it has started rolling out gradually in the United States through Google Search and the Gemini app.

If you find products in Google Search’s AI Mode or in the Gemini app and add them to your cart, items from different sellers are saved in one unified space. You can get alerts when a saved item drops in price or comes back in stock, and you can also check relevant promo codes. The focus is on reducing the need to visit each seller’s site separately just to check prices or inventory.

There are two ways to pay. You can check out directly from the cart using Google Wallet, or move the items to the seller’s cart and complete the purchase on that store’s website. Google also said it will offer a feature that compares benefits tied to saved credit cards alongside Google Wallet, helping users choose the payment method that may be more suitable for their purchase.

For now, the announced availability is limited to Google Search and the Gemini app. Google says it plans to connect the feature with Gmail and YouTube in the future, but no specific timeline has been shared. In other words, this service does not work across every Google platform just yet.

The arrival of Universal Cart reflects a broader shift in which AI’s role in online shopping is expanding beyond product discovery to include organizing and choosing what to buy. The Verge also framed this in the context of competition, pointing to AI shopping assistants from OpenAI and Meta, as well as Shopify’s expanded support for AI agents. That said, how convenient it actually feels may depend on the supported retailers, payment options, and each shopper’s habits. If Google’s planned Gmail and YouTube integration becomes more concrete, the ways users discover and save products are likely to broaden even further.
